You can cast a dozen pieces at a kitchen table. Past a certain volume, or a certain demand for consistency, handing the run to a studio is faster than getting better at it.
Cast it yourself if…
- You need one to twenty pieces
- Variation between pieces is part of the appeal
- You can give each batch 20–30 minutes, plus a day to cure
- You are working with casting sets and moulds you already own
Use a studio if…
- You need fifty identical pieces, same colour and thickness
- The pieces carry a deadline you cannot move
- They must survive shipping or heavy daily use
- You need a finish and tolerance you cannot reproduce by hand
What we tell customers
Start with one set. If the mixing and demoulding please you, buy more aggregate — outsourcing five pieces will not save you money. If you want forty identical coasters for an event, ask a studio for a quote; the mould-making cost is amortised across the run.
