Polyurethane Surface Sealer
The finishing step — seal your plaster surface against water, stains and daily wear.
Specifications, explained
The numbers that decide how a cast behaves — and what to watch for at each step.
Product & coverage
- Base Water-based polyurethane
- Low odour, no solvent smell; rinse tools with water before the film dries.
- Coverage About 1.5 m² per 500 ml, three coats
- Roughly 3 m² per litre of finish; a single very thin coat spreads far further (about 8 m²/L).
- Pack sizes 500 ml bottle · 1 L refill
- Two bottles cover most DIY runs; the refill is cheaper per square metre.
- What it protects Interior gypsum casts, decorative and daily-use pieces
- It hardens the surface — it does not make gypsum waterproof or food-safe.
Timing & application
- Touch dry 30 minutes
- Dust and hair stick to a tacky coat, so work somewhere clean.
- Application Dip the piece for 20–30 s, then air-dry
- One dipped coat cures into a glossy protective layer.
- Full cure 24 hours
- Do not wet or load the piece until the film has cured through.
- Before the first coat P2500 (2000-grit) sand, then remove all dust
- Sealer locks powder into the surface — wipe until a white cloth stays clean.
Use & care
- Water test A drop should bead, not soak in
- If it darkens and disappears, the film is worn and needs another thin coat.
- Cleaning Damp cloth, mild soap
- Abrasive cleaners dull the film faster than they clean it.
- Refresh Re-coat when beading stops — about yearly for daily use
- Recoating thin costs far less than repairing a stained surface.
- Storage Sealed, 5–30 °C, protected from frost
- Frost ruins water-based PU; bring the bottle back to room temperature before use.
