Tutorial: Layered Casting for Gradient Texture

Materials

  • 1 Mixed Texture Decorative Dish casting set
  • Two mixing cups for separate colours
  • Flat spatula and sealer

Steps

  1. 01

Mix the two batches 4 minutes apart

Start the second batch once the first has begun to thicken — that gap is your working window.

  2. 02

Pour the first zone and stop short

Fill to the zoning line and stop; letting it sit for 2 minutes gives a firmer base to pour onto.

  3. 03

    Float the second colour in

Pour over the back of a spatula so the new layer spreads without punching through.

  4. 04

    Draw the transition

For a soft boundary, drag a skewer once through the seam; leave it alone for a crisp line.

  5. 05

    Seal flat

Seal the dish before it fully cures so the boundary stays flush with the surface.
